ENT

Ear, nose, and throat are referred to as ENT. It is a branch of medicine that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing disorders of the head, neck, nose, and throat.

Chronic otitis media, acoustic neuroma, labyrinthitis, tinnitus, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, etc., are common ear conditions.

Some common nose conditions are nasal polyps, deviated septum, chronic rhinitis, nasal trauma and fractures, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), nasal vestibulitis, etc.

Common throat conditions include vocal cord nodules/polyps, pharyngitis, laryngeal cancer, epiglottitis, throat abscess, and throat cancer.

a) Some common ear conditions are;

Having any of the above symptom/s doesn't necessarily mean you have an ENT condition. However, if you are frequently dealing with any of the symptoms mentioned above and any difficulty that affects your ears, nose, and throat, you must visit your doctor. If your doctor confirms the changes and suspects an ENT condition, he/she may refer you to an ENT specialist.

An ENT specialist is a medical professional who identifies and treats conditions affecting the neck and head, including the ears, nose, throat, and associated structures. ENT specialists can work with patients of all ages, from infants to seniors, and are trained in surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Some common ENT diagnosis tests are otoscopy, video stroboscopy, audiometry, laryngoscopy, biopsy, tympanometry, etc.

Common ear treatments are cochlear implant surgery, stapedectomy, mastoidectomy, ear tube surgery, myringotomy, tympanoplasty, etc.

Common nose treatments are septoplasty, sinus surgery, turbinate reduction, nasal fracture repair, endoscopic nasal surgery, rhinoplasty, etc.

Common throat treatments are tonsillectomy, vocal cord surgery, adenoidectomy, tracheostomy, laryngoscopy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, etc.

If you ever experience an ENT condition, getting the right medical attention on time is crucial. Delaying diagnosis or treatment might significantly worsen your condition.
