Heart Treatment

It is a type of disease that affects your heart and blood vessels, also called cardiovascular disease.

There are multiple types of heart disease, and congenital cardiac disease is one type that you might be born with. The common heart diseases are aneurysm, atrial fibrillation,  arrhythmias, heart valve disease, coronary heart disease,  angina, heart failure, rheumatic heart disease, myocarditis, etc.

You are more likely to develop heart disease if you smoke, have high cholesterol levels, have a family history of heart disease, are older, have high blood pressure, etc.

Heart disease symptoms vary from male to female. Men are prone to chest pain whereas women are likely to get chest discomforts like nausea and extreme fatigue

The other notable symptoms are as follows.

  • Angina
  • Chest tightness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Upper body discomfort
  • Fluttering sensation in the chest
  • Numbness, coldness, and pain in arms or legs

Having any of the above symptom/s doesn’t necessarily mean you have heart disease. If you notice any change in your body that lasts for over two weeks then you should see a doctor. If your doctor confirms the changes and suspects heart disease, he/she may refer you to a cardiologist.

A cardiologist is a doctor who has expertise in treating heart and blood vessel disease. They specialize in diagnosing, assessing, and treating patients with defects and diseases  of blood vessels and the heart.

A cardiologist will ask about your medical history, check your heart rate and blood pressure, and do a physical exam followed by blood tests to assess your cholesterol level.  Some of the common tests to check any abnormalities that may indicate heart disease are carotid ultrasound, cardiac catheterization, electrocardiogram, heart MRI, coronary angiography, etc.

Some of the common types of heart treatment are Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), heart transplant, angioplasty, valve disease treatment, heart reconstruction, cardioversion, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD), Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), etc.

If you are diagnosed with any heart condition, you must get effective treatment as early as possible.
